Astwood Bank Community Group
Astwood Bank Community Group is a Community Interest Company (CIC) based in South Redditch, Worcestershire.
I have been working with the ABCG team for over 6 years, supporting them throughout Lockdown and beyond. We have just completed our 5th Community Carnival, a huge event that draws crowds of 8K plus each year with Stunt Performances, Dance Troops, Live Music, Classic Car Displays, Small Business Trade Village and a Community Wide Carnival Procession.
Whilst the Carnival is their biggest event each year, they also host a variety of other events such as Easter Egg Hunts, Spooky Scarecrow Trails, Community Carol Singing and their Christmas Market and Lights Switch On.
All events are for the purpose of raising money for the Astwood Bank Community Group Fund which can be bid into by local community groups and organisations e.g Scouts, Girl Guides, Primary Schools. The funds are there to support groups to develop their groups and their attendees.
My primary service with Astwood Bank Community Group is the Management of their Social Media pages. Making best use of their digital platforms to inform the local community about events, activities and plans they are making. But also, to begin to grown their online community into an engaged discussion for all.
The group themselves rely heavily on volunteer involvement to make all that they do possible, and this is an objective we have ben working together to build. Making use of their digital presence to engage with the community and have the community interacting with them, feeling acknowledged and appreciated has built confidence in there small organisation, and encouraged volunteers to come forward and get involved with projects and events.
